The Board of Trustees of the Institut de Recerca i Innovació en Ciències de la Vida i la Salut a la Catalunya Central (IRIS-CC) has recently approved the appointments of its scientific and regional coordinators. Among those appointed is the head of the Gastrointestinal Oncology, Endoscopy and Surgery (GOES) research group, Ignasi Puig. Doctor Puig assumes the functions of Regional Scientific Coordinator Bages-Manresa, which include the coordination of the needs of researchers in the area, the monitoring of the scientific and innovation objectives of the region, the promotion of collaboration between the member centres of the institute, the work in training programmes, and the impulse in the presentation of projects, clinical trials and agreements.

Fundació Althaia is one of the founding institutions of IRIS-CC, which results from a strategic alliance between 14 academic and health institutions in Central Catalonia and has two regional headquarters, in Manresa and Vic. The partnership between these institutions aims to promote research and innovation in health in the region.
